The mission

In November 2026, Nathan Lumb will embark on a solo, unsupported, and unassisted ski expedition from Hercules Inlet to the Geographic South Pole.

Man-hauling all food, fuel, and survival gear in a ~100 kg pulk across ~700 miles (~1,130 km) of Antarctic ice without resupplies or wind assistance, this ~50–60 day quest pushes the absolute limits of human endurance. The expedition pairs extreme physical performance with pioneering climate research alongside Science in the Wild, while raising vital funds for The King’s Trust.

Scientific Research

Combining polar exploration with cutting-edge environmental science.

Collaborating with Science in the Wild, a citizen science initiative led by Dr. Ulyana Horodyskyj Peña from the University of Colorado. During the expedition, snow samples will be collected along the expedition route to study light-absorbing particles (LAPs) that accelerate glacial melt.

Charity Mission

The King's Trust is a charity supporting young people facing disadvantage or adversity.

The trust provides practical courses, mentoring, and financial support to help young people develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed in work, education, and training. The goal is to break the cycle of youth unemployment and social inequality.

Your sponsorship of our South Pole expedition will directly support the King's Trust's mission to empower young people.
